I wrote this at a turning point in my life - when I realised I didn't have to stay in an abusive relationship. It's a song of hope, of the promise that you can walk away, that it gets better. It's a statement of strength: no matter what has happened before, I'm still standing.
lyrics
I got it wrong again
Some mistake I'm not aware of
And now your silence reigns
Every glance a condemnation
It's all designed to make me hit the floor
But I'm still standing
I'm saying sorry but I don't know what it's for
And we've been here so many times before
But I'm still standing
Time was, in the past
We could talk and you would listen
Now I'm afraid to ask
For fear of being ridiculed
And I wish you'd see it from both sides
Instead of just your own
You never ask me why I'm so scared to be myself now
Sometimes I feel like I am three inches tall
But I'm still standing
You make me believe that you don't care at all
You say I'm stupid and you say I'm wrong
But I'm still standing
Yeah
(Yeah, ha ha, oh oh oh)
(Yeah, ha ha, oh)
I keep on saying sorry
But I don't know what it's for
And each excuse I try to make appears to hurt you more
Why can't you see my side instead of just your own?
I know you think you've won
But I've been standing all along
Sometimes I feel like I am three inches tall
But I'm still standing
You make me believe that you don't care at all
You say I'm stupid and you say I'm wrong
But I'm still standing
Yeah
(Yeah, ha ha, oh oh oh)
(Yeah, ha ha, oh)
I'm still standing on my own
You're never going make me fall
Make me feel small
Or make me crawl
Any more, any more
You're never going make me fall
Make me feel small
Or make me crawl
Any more, any more
